“Desiree” became a mom when she was very young. Her circumstances didn’t allow her to have the home or partner she wished she could have to help raise her daughter, but she still had big dreams for their future.
Desiree lived with her mother for the early years of her daughter’s life. She knew she couldn’t afford to live on her own, but things were hard at home. There were other extended family members living there as well, and her mother had an opinion on everything Desiree did. She didn’t like her parenting choices or the way she spent her money, and while Desiree was working toward a better life, she felt overwhelmed by the never-ending conflict between her and her mom.
She knew she needed to move out, but she had nowhere to go – until she found Second Story for Young Mothers.
Desiree began the program with the goal of being independent so she could achieve some of the dreams she had for her family. Desiree is receiving food and childcare support, and updated her resume so she can apply for a medical certificate program. She hopes to one day be a nurse! She’s eager to begin talking with her case manager about financial management so she can save money and learn more about parenting to be the best mom possible.
With the help of Second Story, Desiree doesn’t feel stagnant anymore. She is taking steps toward the future she wants for her family.
