Lauren moved to Northern Virginia from her hometown just near Virginia Beach, VA in January of 2015, searching for opportunities to help those in need in the ever growing and changing community of Fairfax County. With a BS in Christian Ministry and Biblical Studies from Mid-Atlantic Christian University, she wanted to spread a message of hope and love to young people who were too often overlooked by the community.
Lauren first learned about Second Story through a local church, and shortly after, applied for an internship at Second Story for Teens in Crisis. After being touched by many of the teen’s stories and convicted by the mission of Second Story, Lauren applied to be a full-time residential counselor for the teen shelter when a position opened up in September of 2015.
Since then, Lauren accepted a position as residential assistant for one of Second Story’s homeless youth houses and moved to the administrative office from the teen shelter where she now serves as Development Coordinator. Lauren hopes to someday have a family of her own and also become a foster mom.
