Open Door
Visitors will hear from our staff, learn about issues faced by local youth experiencing homelessness and other crises, and see how our programs are helping to provide urgent support. We will also share information about the various ways you can get involved.
The best way to learn about our programs is to attend in-person to see our programs in action. However, if you can’t attend in-person, we also offer virtual sessions and regularly update this page with new opportunities.
Can’t make it to one of our scheduled sessions? No problem! We offer private Open Door Tours which are perfect for groups, organizations, and others. Please reach out to us if you are unable to attend one of our scheduled slots or if you would like to learn more.

“It was an inspiring afternoon and I am proud that such a foundation exists here locally. In particular, I loved the positivity that radiates from the staff and the building itself, which was evident through the multidimensional programs and especially the art room!”
- Luma
“Attending the Second Story open house showed me that there is hope for teens who need a caring person or place to get the help they need to create a path to success in life. I am an enthusiastic cheerleader for their work.”
-Diane
“I genuinely enjoyed touring the facility and learning about the programs…It was informative but concise making it easy to stay focused… I found it most interesting to discover the many roles that the counselors at Second Story take on–it changes the definition of a therapeutic relationship and allows the kids to really bond with their counselors.”
-Lorin
“The statistics were staggering…I had no idea that stuff was going on in Fairfax County. My favorite part of the tour was hearing the stories of those served first hand. The whole thing was very impactful.”

When are Open Door Sessions?
We have both in-person and virtual sessions. The date and time of the currently scheduled sessions are shown in the “Open Door Session” section of the sign-up form above.
Is this a fundraising event?
No! Open Door Information Sessions are not fundraising events, rather they are opportunities for us to tell you more about our programs.
What should I expect?
Attendees can expect to hear from leadership and staff, learn about issues faced by youth experiencing homelessness and other crises, right here in Fairfax County, and see how our programs are helping our community. If you choose to attend an in-person session, you can expect to get a glimpse into our Second Story for Teens in Crisis program.
Who should attend?
- People interested in supporting youth experiencing homelessness or another crisis.
- People interested in volunteering at Second Story. Please note that this session is NOT a volunteer orientation, and we will not be going in depth into the volunteer process. However, this is an important first step, and we encourage anyone interested in volunteering to attend.
- Supporters who have not yet attended a session.
- Supporters who want to know how to spread the word about our mission.
Are children allowed to attend?
Some of the content references abuse, gang violence, and human trafficking, so we ask that you use your discretion when bringing children. Additionally, these tours are created for members of the community who are looking to learn about what we do rather than youth looking to access our programs.
If you are a young person interested in our programs, please visit our Programs page or contact us.
Will there be time for questions?
Unfortunately, there will not be time for questions during the session, but we will follow up after the meeting and can answer questions then.
