Programs

Second Story offers safe havens and opportunities to grow and thrive to children, youth, and their families. Our programs are located in Northern Virginia, and we serve youth from the Washington, D.C. region.

We started operating our first program in 1972 for youth fleeing unsafe situations. Since then, we have grown to meet the changing needs of our community. We now run four programs and have served more than 50,000 young people since our inception.

Our emergency home for teens provides a safe place to stay, food, clothing, counseling, and help keeping up with school, as well as a 24/7 emergency hotline.

We offer young mothers experiencing homelessness a safe place to turn to and help with housing, counseling, and other services so they can learn to support their families.

We help high school students and other youth experiencing homelessness with housing, counseling, necessities, and other services for independent living.

We operate drop-in centers and after-school programs, and serve as the lead agency for the Opportunity Neighborhood’s initiative in the Bailey’s Crossroads region.
