Second Story for Teens in Crisis is part of Second Story, a nonprofit that transforms the lives of local youth and families in need by providing safe havens and opportunities to grow and thrive through residential and community-based programs. Our Teens in Crisis program is the only emergency home and safe haven in Northern Virginia for teens ages 13–17, providing shelter, safety, counseling, and support during critical moments in a young person’s life.
We are seeking a dedicated, mission‑driven Assistant Program Manager to join our in‑person team (40 hours/week) at Second Story for Teens in Crisis, an adolescent group home in Vienna, VA. This full‑time leadership role supports both daily residential operations and the Program Manager, while mentoring, training, and working alongside our team of residential counselors. The ideal candidate is reliable, organized, motivated, and adaptable, with strong communication, problem‑solving, and conflict‑resolution skills. Residential Responsibilities:
- Support residents through the daily house schedule
- Facilitate individual and group counseling sessions
- Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy living environment
- Provide clinical case management, including case notes and treatment plans
- Answer crisis hotline calls
- Conduct intakes and discharges
Program Responsibilities:
- Manage the staff schedule by approving time-off requests and arranging coverage, including relief/last-minute coverage as needed
- Assist supervisors in onboarding new staff, interns, and volunteers
- Monitor and correct resident files to ensure compliance with licensing standards
- Ensure that daily paperwork is filed appropriately by staff
- Compile monthly program statistics
- Complete community errands (using agency and/or personal vehicles), such as weekly grocery shopping
Schedule (hours are non-negotiable):
- Sunday: OFF
- Monday: OFF
- Tuesday: 2:30pm-10:30pm
- Wednesday: 2:30pm-10:30pm
- Thursday: 9:30am-5:30pm
- Friday: 8:30am-4:30pm
- Saturday: 8:30am-4:30pm
Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree (preferably in psychology, social work, human services, or a related field)
- Willing to undergo a background investigation prior to employment and become certified in CPR/First Aid and Medication Administration
- Some experience working in the mental health/social services field, especially with teenagers
- Some experience with providing supervision and/or training
Preferred:
- Bilingual in English and Spanish
Compensation & Benefits:
Hourly Salary: $25-$26 per hour commensurate with education and experience.
