Other Ways to Give

Second Story will work with you to find the best way for you to support our mission, on your terms. From multi-year giving to workplace donation programs to legacy planning, there’s an option for you.

Beacon of Hope Society

By joining our closest circle of supporters, you’ll help us plan for the future through recurring or multi-year giving. Members pledge to give a minimum of $1,000 per year for at least five years (about $85/month at the $1,000 level), partnering with us to ensure the health of our programs.

Workplace Giving

Giving through United Way, the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC), a matching gift program, or other option is an easy way to make a big impact. Workplace giving campaigns promote a culture of kindness while improving employee satisfaction as colleagues help their neighbors in need. To donate to Second Story through United Way or the CFC, write “The Abused and Homeless Children’s Refuge-Second Story” on your pledge form and your donation will be automatically deducted from your paycheck. To inquire about giving programs and matching gift options, contact your Human Resources Department.

Planned Giving

By participating in our planned giving programs, you can create a long-lasting legacy, make a big impact on our work, and may be eligible for tax benefits. We are here to talk through any questions about Legacy Giving, Bequests, Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs), or Stock Transfers. Your financial planner can help designate Second Story in your will or trust in a variety of ways.

To discuss planned giving, please contact our Vice President of Development or call 571.327.2827.

Fundraise Your Way

Hosting a fundraiser is a fun way to involve your friends, family, and coworkers in supporting the young people in our programs and raising awareness about our work. The opportunities are endless and we have all of the tools necessary to help you get started. By hosting a fundraiser, you’ll inspire others and help us ensure we can keep our programs open and available for all local youth and families who need us.

Other Ways to Give

Are you interested in receiving tax credits for your donations? Or would you like to donate a vehicle, honor someone with a gift, or participate in Amazon Smile, there are many other creative ways to support Second Story.

Any individual or business in Virginia may seek to take advantage of the Neighborhood Assistance Program and receive tax credit for their donations.

We receive a certain amount of NAP credits to distribute to our donors every year.

The minimum donation value must be at least $500, but no more than $125,000 in a taxable year for an individual or $616 for a trust. You must give the donation directly through Second Story; donations made through a third-party platform (like United Way or another nonprofit) are not eligible.

If you are interested in receiving NAP credit, please contact our Vice President of Development to ensure that we have NAP credit available for your donation. The credit is worth up to 65% of your donation amount.

For NAP documents and forms, visit Virginia Department of Social Services Website. You can find us listed in the approved organizations under “Abused and Homeless Children’s Refuge – Second Story.”

You can donate any vehicle, old or new, to the charity of your choice through the “Vehicle Donation to Any Charity” program.

Honor someone who has made a difference in your life by helping us make a difference in the lives of young people. Give your gift to honor a friend or loved one.

Amazon donates 0.5% of the price of your eligible Amazon Smile purchase to the charitable organization of your choice. You can support Second Story at smile.amazon.com and select “Second Story.”
