Through the uncertainty of the past year, one thing that held our organization steady was the unwavering commitment of our volunteers. You showed up when we needed you, you rolled up your sleeves, you served local youth and families in crisis, and you made a huge difference in our community. And so we celebrate YOU this April in recognition of National Volunteer Month.
We are touched every day by the individuals who reach out and ask how they can help. It is clear that so many in our community want to make a difference by sharing your talents, skills, time, and enthusiasm.
In fact last year, about 500 volunteers donated 16,772 hours to Second Story!
All of that support energizes our staff, especially during tough times when funding can be uncertain, community needs seem unending, or when we see a young person experience an unfair setback. YOU and the individuals we serve inspire us to keep going and to stay focused on our mission. YOU have made our work possible over the past 54 years.
Whether you read our emails, filled a volunteer role, dropped off meals, shared your professional skills, or gave us a piece of your heart when working with our after-school programs, you are helping make a difference in our community and we thank you. Don’t just take it from me, hear it directly from Jade Leedham, our CEO, who started her journey with Second Story more than 17 years ago as a VOLUNTEER!
