Second Story held our first-ever gift-wrapping party!
Volunteers from across our community showed up with scissors, tape, wrapping paper, and plenty of cheer to wrap hundreds of donated gifts collected as part of Second Story’s holiday gift drives. These gifts will be distributed to local youth and families in need so all have the opportunity to experience holiday joy this season.
All of the gifts donated and wrapped will go to those we serve, including youth experiencing homelessness or another crisis, families dealing with economic hardship, students in our after-school programs, young mothers fleeing domestic abuse and other challenges, and others.
Your support warmed our hearts and continues to inspire us. Here are just a few examples of the commitment of our volunteers:
- Several groups made it a family affair by bringing kids of all ages, grandparents, aunts and uncles, and more.
- Some students who just flew in from college earlier in the day put on some Santa hats and got busy wrapping and helping us load our vans with presents!
- A local faith organization allowed us to use their space for our event.
- Some hard-working young executives from local supporting organizations showed up to help.
- Our Board and Legacy Team members helped make the event possible by securing the venue and bringing friends to help wrap.
- One volunteer lovingly purchased and wrapped EVERY SINGLE GIFT from the wish list of one of the young families in our program.
- Staff and friends of our staff helped secure donated hot chocolate and sweets from local businesses to provide refreshments to our volunteers.
- One volunteer didn’t let a broken bike prevent her from showing up! She filled her backpack with wrapping paper and took public transportation to join us.
- Another volunteer stayed until the VERY LAST MINUTE to be sure every single gift was wrapped!
