Mickey Skelton

Chief Operating Officer

Mickey Skelton joined Second Story in 2020 as the Vice President of Operations. Her primary responsibility is ensuring organizational effectiveness by providing leadership for the organization’s operational functions. She brings extensive process improvement, change management, and administrative management experience to the role, with nearly three decades of experience in management consulting in both the private and public sectors. Mickey has worked for Ernst & Young, the American Productivity & Quality Center, and several Federal contractors and local small businesses, and has served in roles from senior consultant to Chief Culture Officer. More recently, she moved into the nonprofit space to have greater impact on the local community, serving as Director for McLean Youth Track & Field, and leading a disaster relief nonprofit she founded in the wake of Superstorm Sandy.

Mickey holds an MBA from the University of Texas, and a B.A. from Bucknell University. She lives in Northern Virginia with her husband and two children, and spends the vast majority of her spare time watching, coaching, or playing soccer.

  • Three high school students experiencing homelessness receive a full year of rental assistance and support services so they can remain in school and graduate with their class.

  • One teenager receives a safe haven, warm bed, food, and round-the-clock support for five nights at Second Story for Teens in Crisis, or
  • Eight months of therapy for a young woman in the Second Story for Young Mothers program.

  • One teen receives daily counseling during a three-week stay at Second Story for Teens in Crisis, or
  • Twenty counseling sessions for the children and teens who are at-risk and participating in our after-school programs.

  • Three teens receive a therapy session at Second Story for Teens in Crisis, or
  • Two weeks of food for a young mother and her child at Second Story for Young Mothers.
